Collection Introduction

The precious Song Dynasty artifacts from the Crocodile Island shipwreck were salvaged and housed in a dedicated museum in Indonesia. After years of negotiations with local leaders, the artifacts were shipped back to Hong Kong. After several years of sorting and research, they are now ready for restoration in Hong Kong.

Artifacts recovered from the Crocodile Island shipwreck are found at numerous kilns, including those from Raozhou (Jingdezhen), the Cizao Kiln in Jinjiang, Fujian, the Tong'an Kiln, the Yongfu Kiln in Zhangping, and the Luowanjing Kiln in Zhangpu. Other artifacts include the Bijiashan Kiln in Chaozhou, Guangdong, and the Xicun Kiln in Guangzhou. The Song Dynasty masters the perfect blend of simplicity and unadorned elegance, using uniquely clean forms to express their deep understanding of nature and its inhabitants. This embodies the profoundness and artistic depth of Chinese culture.
