Guangdong Stone Kiln

This technique originated in the Tang Dynasty and flourished during the Song Dynasty. Production reached considerable scale, with exports reaching far afield, making Foshan a significant base for Song Dynasty ceramic production. A large jar in the collection of the Ocean Sea Culture and Art Association features a rolled lip, a bulging belly, and four handles on the shoulders. Its body is grayish-white and hard, with a glaze primarily in shades of brown and greenish-yellow. The glaze does not extend to the base, and the shoulder is embossed with a pattern resembling a chrysanthemum.
